Springdale Public Library
2008 Recipient of the We the People "Created Equal Bookshelf
The Springdale Public Library was recently named as one of the recipients of the 2008 We the People “Created Equal” Bookshelf. The Bookshelf program is part of the National Endowment for the Humanities’ We The People initiative which supports projects that strengthen the teaching, study, and understanding of American history and culture. The theme coincides with the 2009 bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln’s birth and his contributions to the idea and reality of human equality in America. The American Library Association, in partnership with NEH, sent seventeen classic books supporting the theme “Created Equal”. Four of the titles were also received in Spanish translation. Various programs are planned throughout the next several months to support the theme by incorporating the Bookshelf titles. These books have been added to the permanent collections of The Springdale Public Library.
