Guidelines for Computer Use and Wireless Internet Access
The following rules were established to ensure equitable access to the Library’s computer resources. The Library’s Computer Use Policy specifies that all computer users must comply with these guidelines. Failure to do so will result in the suspension and/or the loss of Library privileges. Users must accept the Guidelines for Computer and Wireless Internet Access Use upon sign in at any public access computer or upon sign in to the Library’s wireless network.
Library staff reserves the right to end an Internet session if the Internet search causes a disruption of service or if the behavior of the user is inappropriate for a public setting.
- · Users must have a valid card from the Springdale Public Library or one of the libraries of the Washington County Library System.
- · Adults living outside Washington County may use Library computers or the wireless network as temporary users for a maximum of thirty days by presenting a driver’s license or other valid picture ID. After the temporary use period expires, they must obtain a Springdale Public Library card to use computer resources.
- · The computers in the adult area, including the workstations for young adults, are for research only. The following uses of the Internet, therefore, are not allowed: Gaming. The computers in the Children’s Area can be used for gaming. These restrictions do not apply to wireless internet use.
- · The computers in the Children’s Area are for children under the age of 13 and for parents whose children are using the Children’s Area. The computers on the floor in the adult area are for young adults, ages 13 through 17. Staff reserves the right to limit use of those computers to young adults during peak usage hours.
- · All public computers and the Library's wireless access are filtered. Adults who wish to have unfiltered Internet access will need to use one of the Library's wired Internet computers.
- · Users are allowed one-hour computer sessions. Adults have a maximum of two hours of computer use per day. Children and Young Adults have a maximum of one hour of computer use per day. Staff reserves the right to restrict time limits as necessary due to peak usage or other factors. On Sundays, users are limited to a daily maximum of one hour of use. Wireless network use carries no time restrictions.
- · Users must pay for all the pages they print. Printing charges are ten cents per page. Printing is not available for wireless users.
- · Because of limited space, a maximum of two people may sit together at a single computer. Staff reserves the right to limit any computer to use by only one person.
- · Wireless users may use electrical outlets in study carrels and at tables immediately adjacent to walls. Wireless users may not drape electrical wires across walkways or other open space in such a manner as to endanger other library users.
- · Public displays of obscenity are prohibited by Arkansas State Law and are a clear violation of the Library’s Computer Use Policy.
- · Any activities deemed illegal apply to users on both Library-owned computers and on users computers that access the Library’s wireless network. Illegal activities include violation of copyright agreements, harassment of others through the Internet, and exploitation of security holes in computers or networks.
- · Users may not alter or attempt to alter Library hardware or software. Additionally, users may not utilize an undue amount of bandwidth while accessing the Library’s wireless network. Users needing higher bandwidth must use a wired Library public access computer.
- · Users are responsible for damage to computer equipment or software.
